KARACHI: Senior officials of the Sindh Police force have on Sunday decided to arrest Malir former Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar and aide officials involved in the alleged encounter of Naqeebullah Mehsud.
Pertaining orders from Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal on Thursday, Inspector General (IG) Sindh AD Khawaja established a committee consisting of Inspector General Police (IGP) Counter-terrorism Department (CTD) Sanaullah Abbasi, DIG South and East to probe the alleged encounter.
Ex-SSP Rao was summoned by the committee but was later sacked from his post after evidences provided by him related to Naqeebullah’s criminal record and alleged links with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were deemed ‘baseless’ by the probing unit.
During a meeting on Sunday headed by IGP Abbasi at DIG East’s office, a decision to arrest the officials involved in Naqeebullah’s alleged encounter was made, sources said. The committee meeting has also opted to transfer all Station House Officers (SHO) of East District, deputed by former SSP Rao.
Naqeebullah Mehsud, a 27-year-old South Waziristan native, was gunned down in an alleged encounter on January 13 in Shah Latif town.
