LAHORE: The Muharram moon has been sighted on Thursday evening marking the beginning of one of the most revered months in the Islamic calendar. The central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee made the formal announcement in this regard. The Ashura will be on Sunday, October the 1st.
The central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Mufti Muneebur Rehman, met for moon sighting in Karachi on Thursday.
Muharram is religiously observed by Muslims worldwide because of its historic significance. It was during Muharram that the family of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was led into the biggest betrayal by the tyrant ruler of the time.
Beginning from the first of Muharram, leading up to the Ashura, members and companions of the family of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) including his grandson Imam Hussain (A.S) had to go through various trials including the cutting off of water supplies. It was on the day of Ashura that members of the family of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) were martyred.
Imam Hussain’s (A.S) great sacrifice is commemorated by Muslims worldwide who partake in charitable acts to honour his memory in the holy month of Muharram.
