CHARSADDA: A man died and two others sustained injuries when a portion of historic Sardaryab Bridge collapsed near Charsadda district. Built on Kabul River, the bridge collapsed when a cement-laden truck was passing through it. According to police and rescue sources, the truck was half way on the bridge when the structure gave way.
The truck driver died on the spot while two other people sustained injuries, sources said. Both the injured and the body were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital, Charsadda. The authorities have called in heavy machinery to remove the rubble from the water of Kabul River.
