GUJRANWALA: City Police Officer Ashfaq Khan has said that all efforts will be made to ensure peace and tranquility during Muharram, adding that religious scholars should play their role for creating brotherhood and love in society.
While addressing a meeting in his office he said that security plan to protect the lives and properties of the people in the district is being finalized. He said walk through gates would be set up at Imam Bargahs and procession routs while large number of police officials and officers will perform duties at the said places also. Chairman peace committee Qari Saleem Zahid, president chamber of commerce Saeed Ahmed Taj, Ulemai Ikram and police officers were also present in the meeting. CPO said that strict action would be done against those who found involved in violence of code of conduct. All the participants including Ulema Ikram assured the CPO for their full cooperation to maintain law and order during Muharram Ul Harram.
Teachers protest: Teachers of government higher secondary school continued their protest against principal and also boycotted the classrooms on Thursday. The protesters alleged that the principal had abused and used rough language with teachers. They demanded that school principal may be transferred immediately otherwise their protest would continue.
Clogged sewers: Dozens of citizens staged a protest against the municipal corporation mayor for not making efforts to drain out dirty water from streets. Residents of Union Council-18 alleged that sewerage system of their area was blocked for the last many days and dirty water was accumulated in the streets, which caused troubles for the residents. They demanded that sewerage system may be fixed and dirty water drained out from the union council as soon as possible.
Rohingya Muslims: A protest rally was arranged by the “Aam Log Party” against violence and discrimination against Rohingya Muslims on Thursday, in which hundreds of activists and citizens participated. Aam Log Party Chairman Naseem Sadiq and City President Naveed Butt while addressing the rally condemned the violence and discrimination against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and the silence of the international community on the issue. The protesters shouted slogans against the government and the armed forces of Myanmar for alleged atrocities against Rohingya Muslims on the basis of their faith. They appealed to the international community and Pakistani government to play their due role to stop the killing of Rohingya Muslims.
Bribe: An anti-corruption team held a senior clerk of the DC Office for receiving bribe on Thursday. A citizen Qurban Ali gave an application to the anti-corruption officials that head clerk of Hafizabad DC Office Muhammad Arshad was demanding bribe for providing some record to him. On this application the team raided the DC Office and held the head clerk while receiving bribe of Rs 5,000 from the citizen.
