KOHAT: A young woman, Hina Shahnawaz, was shot to death by her cousin in a suspected honour killing incident in the Kohat area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to police, her cousin, Mehboob Alam, did not like her working outside the house.
Hina was the only bread winner of her family, working with an NGO and receiving Rs 80, 000 as salary. She was supporting her mother, sister-in-law, nephew and niece financially as her father and brother had already died.
Hina refused to stop doing her job due to which her cousin killed her. According to some reports, this was not the only motive behind the murder with it being alleged that she had also refused to marry her cousin and demanded her share from the family’s property.
Allegedly, a first information report (FIR) was only lodged after rumours of the murder began circulating on social media.
Kohat District Police Officer (DPO) Javed Iqbal said the woman had been shot four times.
He said a search operation was being conducted to find Alam.
