ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar on Tuesday took notices of torture on a minor maid in Lahore and fraud in fixing stents in cardiac patients at Lahore.
According to Supreme Court’s spokesman Shahid Kamboyo, the CJP took first notice of alleged brutal torture on a nine-year-old maid in Lahore. The statement stated that the employer in Lahore burnt the hands of her maid until her flesh sizzled.
As per reports, the statement said police hushed up the case and pressed the girl’s family to forgive the accused woman. Taking cognizance of the matter, the CJP directed the inspector general of Punjab to submit detailed report within three days.
Meanwhile, the chief justice also took cognizance of fraud in fixing stents in cardiac patients during heart surgeries. The action was taken after names of a few hospitals, including Mayo Hospital, surfaced.
The reports state, according to the SC spokesman’s office, hospitals in Lahore are either putting stents in cardiac patients unnecessarily or charging patients up to Rs 180,000 for each stent. The reports suggest that the stent being used in surgeries actually cost nominal price of few thousand rupees.
The reports also state that in many cases the stents were not implanted in patients but the hospitals charged them for bogus angioplasty.
Taking notice of the issue, the chief justice has directed the Federal Investigation Agency director general to submit its report.
