The federal government will release 30 Indian prisoners, 27 of whom were fishermen held since they crossed international waters into the Pakistani jurisdiction, on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Foreign Office on Monday. FO spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said the decision to free the prisoners was taken on humanitarian grounds. He added that Pakistan hoped that India would reciprocate the gesture with a positive move.
