LAHORE: In the wake of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) backed lineup’s convincing victory in Senate elections from Punjab on Saturday, Maryam Nawaz said that no ‘worldly powers’ can undo Nawaz Sharif because ‘the Almighty is with him’.
Taking to Twitter after PML-N backed candidates’ victory in Senate elections, Maryam said that no ‘worldly powers’ can disqualify Nawaz Sharif since the ‘Almighty is with him’. She congratulated and expressed gratitude to those who continue to side with the former prime minister despite his disqualification as party president.
Maryam further stated that Nawaz was ousted as party president and that PML-N candidates were not allowed to contest elections with party logo, but despite that the former prime minister’s nominees for Senate elections stood victorious.
Speaking on occassion, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah also congratulated party leaders who secured seats in the upper house. He termed PML-N 11/12 win in Senate as a ‘victory of democracy and defeat of the enemies’.
Sanaullah added that the victory of PML-N backed candidates is, in fact, former PM Nawaz Sharif’s victory and that it was in accordance with the PML-N’s majority in Punjab and without horse-trading.
PML-N dominates Punjab in Senate elections
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) backed candidates have managed to secure eleven seats from Punjab in the Senate elections on Saturday.
According to reports, stern competition between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Muhammad Sarwar and PML-N backed Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan was seen after which the PTI leader stood victorious.
After Supreme Court of Pakistan’s decision to oust Nawaz Sharif as PML-N president, while also disqualifying the party from Senate elections, 23 PML-N leaders are contesting Saturday’s Senate elections as independent candidates.
Former finance minister Ishaq Dar secured Senate technocrat seat from Punjab, while other victorious PML-N backed candidates include Dr Asif Kirmani, Nuzhat Sadiq, Saadia Abbasi, Haroon Khan and Shaheen Khalid Butt.
