LAHORE: Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court on Monday turned down the request of interim relief of imposing ban on rally of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) along with other political parties on January 17 at The Mall.
The judge also issued notices to federal government and provincial governments and also to the ruling and opposition parties on petition of a lawyer A K Dogar requesting to restraint the opposition parties from taking out rally on The Mall.
Judge by observing that it was a matter of sensitive nature, referred the petition to Chief Justice for constitution of larger bench to hear it.
Advocate A. K. Dogar moved the petition submitted to staging protest against an elected government was unlawful and constitutional. He said that staging protest was also violation of Article 124 of the Constitution. He alleged that the opposition protest would lead the country towards anarchy and would jam the system, causing huge financial loss to the people and the country. He requested to restrain the parties from holding protest. As interim relief, he requested to impose ban on the PAT rally.
