KARACHI: At least eight people including four women lost their lives after a road accident occurred between a passenger van and a truck in Nooriabad, rescue officials stated.
According to reports, the truck which was overloaded with coal, was on its way from Ranipur to Sukkar, was attempting to overtake the passenger van but lost control and toppled onto the van carrying passengers from Karachi to Hyderabad.
The bodies of the deceased and the injured have been shifted to Civil Hospital for autopsy purposes and provision of medical treatment.
A similar accident had taken place in Khairpur the previous week, where as many as 20 people were killed.
The bodies of the dead and the injured were recovered after the van had to be cut and and the truck was removed from above with the help of cranes and machinery.
Motorway officials stated that the accident occurred early Monday, and was the direct result of over speeding and early morning foggy conditions.
