LAHORE: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday suspended the non-bailable arrest warrants issued against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
On October 12, the ECP issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of PTI Chief on contempt charges and ordered the authorities to present him before the commission on October 26. However, Khan’s lawyer challenged the ECP’s authority to issue arrest warrants against PTI Chief in IHC.
In today’s hearing, Khan’s lawyer Babar Awan argued that the ECP has no jurisdiction to hear the contempt of court cases and urged the larger bench of IHC to suspend the arrest warrants along with other proceedings of ECP against his client.
However, IHC only suspended the arrest warrants and did not halt other proceedings of ECP against Khan.
The court was adjourned till November 7.
