LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq said on Sunday that the elections must be held on time and the process of accountability should also continue.
Addressing a large gathering at the JI’s Azme Nau Convention at Wahdat Road, he said that any delay in the polls would plunge the country into a serious crisis.
Haq said that the nation was not satisfied with the accountability of Nawaz Sharif alone and wanted accountability of all those named in the Panama Leaks case.
He said that the masses looked forward to the NAB. “If the present NAB chairman also adopts the attitude as his predecessors, the masses will besiege the rulers and nobody will be able to stop a revolution,” he said.
He said that the JI would hold a youth convention at Iqbal Park on March 23 next year.
The JI chief said that Nawaz Sharif government had acquired $1,480 billion loans during the last four years. “However, the roads of Lahore look like the ruins of Mohenjo Daro. Nawaz Sharif was elected PM thrice, but he adopted a dictatorial attitude and ruined the democratic institutions. Now he is fighting for selfish ends and is protesting against court decisions,” he said.
He said that there was no room for the agents of the international establishment and US in the country. “They will have to return the plundered wealth or flee from the country. The country has been run by a gang of selfish people who are not ready to come out of their self and look towards the masses,” he said.
He said that once again, efforts were being made to establish family rule in the country. “The country’s politics revolve around individuals and families and that is why institutions are weak,” he said.
The JI chief said the ousted PM was claiming that he was fighting for the sanctity of the vote. “However, he is actually fighting for himself. These rulers allowed CIA agent Raymond Davis to return home although he had killed three innocent persons in the city. Corruption and nepotism are the gifts of Nawaz Sharif and Zardari,” he said.
He said that the Sharif family had been in power for the last 35 years, but the people of Lahore had not yet started clean drinking water. “The plight of the government hospitals is so pitiable that even women patients are not admitted there,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch said that the large gathering at the convention proved that the JI was alive in the city and it represented people in all walks of life. He said that the mandate of the Lahoris had been stolen in every election. “It has been established by now that the corrupt and incompetent people representing the Punjab capital only brought bad name to the city,” he said.
He said that the JI alone had the capability to bring about a change. “It is the responsibility of the Lahoris to obstruct the election of the thieves and those working against the country’s ideology to the corridors of power,” he said.
JI Punjab chief Mian Maqsood Ahmed said that party had been serving the people of the country both inside the assemblies and outside.
