LAHORE: At least 15 people were killed and over 50 others injured in rain-related incidents in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Rainstorms hit various parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing casualties. Women and children were among the dead. Seven people were killed in Bahawalnagar. The administration imposed a state of emergency in the District Headquarters Hospital where six injured were brought.
Rain in Faisalabad caused a roof collapse, claiming the life of a woman Shakeela Bibi. Her husband was wounded. Another life was lost in Burewala and four people were injured when a wall collapsed. In Chichawatni and Sahiwal, various rain and wind-related incidents caused the deaths of three people, including two children and led to injuries to around 22 people. One person was reported killed in Raiwand when the roof of his house collapsed due to heavy showers. A similar incident occurred in Multan’s Muhammadpur area where the roof of a seminary collapsed, injuring seven students.
A woman and her 11-year-old son died while four-year-old injured in Tehsil Athara Hazari of Jhang district as the windstorm uprooted a tree that fell down upon them. The rainstorm wounded 15 people in Multan and six in Shujabad and Chishtian. Another life was lost in Swat as lightening struck a house in Malam Jabba.
The Meteorological Department warned that more showers with thunderstorm and gusty winds were expected in some parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces in the next twelve hours.
