KARACHI: Saleem Shahzad, founding member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and senior political leader was arrested at Karachi Airport on his arrival on Monday.
Karachi AIG Mushtaq Mahar informed media that Saleem Shahzad had reached Karachi on Monday morning, where he was arrested by DSP Airport. Shahzad’s passport has been confiscated by immigration officials.
Returning from self-imposed exile, Shahzad was travelling on a British passport and landed at the airport at 10:30 AM.
Before his departure, Shahzad had informed media that he would announce his next political plan after reaching Karachi. He had said that various circles in Karachi were sending him arrest threats.
“I have not committed any crime, I am not afraid of getting arrested,” he said.
Saleem Shahzad had announced on Sunday through a tweet that he would be returning to Pakistan.
