ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid on Tuesday said that he has the right to appoint a lawyer for the ongoing corruption references against him.
Nawaz, while speaking to the media outside accountability court hearing Avenfield reference, said that if the trial was to be done fairly, then there has to be a defense to take the case any further.
The former premier appeared before the accountability court for the hearings defense-less as earlier on Monday his counsel Khawaja Haris had announced to withdraw as Nawaz’s counsel owing to Supreme Court’s dictation to speed up the trial so that a verdict can be reached within 30 days.
Sharif added that ‘No one can deny me the right to choose my lawyer.” He added that placing his name on the Exit Control List was talk of the town, which will barr him from leaving the country.
Nawaz, didn’t clearly state so, but referring to some others, said that “Those who broke the backbone of terrorists are being placed on ECL while those who brought terrorism to the country are being removed from the list.”
He added ” those who broke and made a mockery out of the constitution are being welcomed.”
Earlier on Monday, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) requested the Interior Ministry the second time to place names of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar on ECL along with Hasan and Hussain’s names.
NAB in its letter had maintained the view that the accused are going through the final stages of the trial and it may be an apprehension that the accused may leave the country to avoid legal outcomes of the judgement.
