ISLAMABAD: Ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that he would not relent on the issue of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) launching an investigation of money laundering against him.
The former premier was addressing the media inside the accountability court that has initiated proceedings against Nawaz and his family in the Al Azizia reference case.
The PML-N leader also said that things could not get any worse for him, and said that such difficult situations did not manifest even under dictatorships.
Nawaz also informed the media that he had called the N-league’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) for a meeting today (Friday) to discuss the issue.
The NAB Chairman had earlier initiated an investigation against the former prime minister on the basis of media reports that claimed Nawaz Sharif had laundered US$4.9 billion to India.
Media reports cited a 2016 World Bank report that seemingly highlighted the transaction.
The World Bank and the State Bank of Pakistan, however, later refuted these claims, casting doubts on NAB’s credibility.
