The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed an application by Abdul Sattar Mehr, who is struggling to regain ownership of his cultivated land being allegedly occupied by the Okara Military Farms, seeking his shifting from high-security prison in Sahiwal to any other ordinary jail.
Abid Saqi, counsel for Abdul Sattar Mehr, apprised a three-member Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Umer Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan that a total of 36 cases were registered against his client during his struggle for getting ownership of lands being occupied by the Okara Military Farms in Punjab. He stated that his client has been acquitted in 32 cases.
The chief justice told the counsel that the court had earlier arranged his meeting with Mehr. The counsel replied that he had met Mehr and that the shackles of his client had been removed. Besides, he had been taken out of the solitary confinement but was still being kept in high-security jail in Sahiwal, he said, and requested the court to order shifting of his client to any other ordinary jail. The chief justice noted that the authorities concerned had decided to keep the prisoner in high-security jail of Sahiwal due to some reasons, and dismissed the plea for shifting.
