KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Sunday said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government had failed to resolve the problems of Sindh despite being in power in the province for last 10 years.
Imran is currently in Karachi on a two-day visit. Upon his arrival at the airport, the PTI chief was welcomed by dozens of his supporters and party activists.
Talking to reporters on the occasion, the PTI chief said the problem of safe drinking water had worsened in the city. He commended the role of Supreme Court and Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar for taking notice of the issue. He revealed that the inquiry report of the committee formed by the CJP on problems of Karachi had pointed out that drinking water in the city was contaminated with sewage waste. “There are 650 places in the city which are supplying this polluted water to the citizens,” he said.
Imran said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto should inform the masses about development projects undertook by his party. “The PPP is having the government in the province for last 10 years but no progress has been made,” he said. “Please tell me about one thing that you have improved in Karachi or interior Sindh during the last 10 years,” he asked, adding Bilawal should ask also his father as to how he had become a billionaire.
Later, addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, Imran Khan rebuked major political parties in Sindh for the environmental degradation and lack of basic facilities to the inhabitants of the province. He said the revenue being generated from the city was not being utilized to improve the living condition of the people. He noted that the local government in the city had limited resources. “One of the major problems the city is facing is limited resources with the local government. The city needs an empowered local government system to tackle the prevailing civic issues,” he observed.
Turning guns on Sindh police, the PTI chief deplored the staged encounter of 27-year-old Naqeeb Mehsud in Karachi. He said the police in the province was being used to settle scores with the opponents.
