KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar on Monday decried attempts to restrict his party in the political scene through “horse-trading” in Senate election, saying he would challenge the results in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Addressing the media, Sattar said MQM-P would also approach Sindh High Court and Supreme Court regarding the matter.
“We have issued show-cause notices to six MPAs for voting PPP in the elections,” he said, adding that those issued notices included four women members, one minority and one MPA from interior Sindh.
“Not only our MPAs were bought, they were threatened and harassed,”
he alleged.
Sattar lamented 15 or possibly more MQM-P members were “forced to change their loyalty”.
The veteran politician said that after minus-one, a minus-two formula was being enforced in Karachi.
“A political stage is being prepared in Karachi for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Paksarzameen Party (PSP),” he added.
Decrying that the party is going through difficult times, Sattar also alleged that Mohajirs’ vote was being made to divert to Pakistan Muslim League-Functional and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Meanwhile, the PPP has rejected the allegations, asking the MQM-P not to place the blame of the infighting among party factions on the PPP.
