LAHORE: Additional IG Abu Bakr Khuda Baksh has told the Supreme Court that the interrogations in the Zainab murder case are being conducted regarding the case, adding that no timeframe can be provided about the arrest the suspect.
During the hearing of a suo moto hearing on rape and murder case of Zainab,the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday expressed annoyance over lack of progress.
AIG told the court that a girl named Kainat had also suffered a similar incident but survived and is unable to speak now.
The CJP commented that it is police’s duty to conduct effective investigations, but offenders are released owing to their poor efforts.
Justice Nisar said the SC does not wish to pressurise the police and wants to ensure that the real culprit is arrested.
Ensuring that the offender will be arrested, the AIG said that a serial killer is behind all these rape and murder cases, adding that DNA samples of 400 suspects have been taken.
The court adjourned the proceedings till January 20 and summoned answers from the joint investigation team (JIT) and head of forensic lab on Saturday.
