ISLAMABAD: The accountability court that is hearing corruption references filed against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) adjourned proceedings on Friday as it had not received the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) order from Thursday.
On Thursday, the IHC had instructed the accountability court to re-hear Nawaz Sharif’s plea seeking clubbing of the three references filed against him.
Nawaz Sharif reached the judicial complex accompanied by his daughter Maryam, after they had left the Punjab House earlier, Captain (retd) Safdar was also present inside court premises early Friday.
As the hearing resumed, Accountability Court Judge Mohammad Bashir briefly adjourned that proceedings as the court was yet to recieve a copy of the IHC’s order.
Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif’s counsel Khawaja Harris argued before court that his client and the legal team need some time to prepare the case in light of the court order.
Judge Mohammad Bashir then adjourned the case till November 7, and also suspended summons issued to two NAB prosecution witnesses namely Sidra Mansoor of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and Inland Revenue Department’s Jahangir Khan.
The accountability court will first hear Nawaz’s plea to club the three references filed against him after which normal proceedings of the case would resume.
