KHAIRPUR: Civil society members and Sindhiani Teehrik took out a protest rally against violence towards women in Naushahro Ferzoe where they demanded that violence against women come to an end and Jirga members who sentenced women to death in the name of “honour” be awarded exemplary punishments.
The speakers in front of the local press club condemned forced changing of religion and honour killings. They demanded safe and sound recovery of Fazeela Sarki, a seven year old girl who was kidnapped five years ago.
The participating women chanted slogans, saying that women in Pakistani society remained under constant stress and agony. Sardarn Almani, Marvi Soomro, Pathani Sangrah, Asifa kalhoro and others alleged that rulers made “slaughter houses” in Sindh for women under what they called an “Enmity towards women” policy . They said police had failed to arrest the killers of Tania Khaskheli which showed how little the government cared about violence against women.
