LAHORE: Heavy rain spells coupled with cool winds and snowfall in the northern areas turned the weather chilly in the provincial metropolis.
The irregular rain started late night on Tuesday and continued till the afternoon on Wednesday.
The showers brought mercury levels down from 17to 14 degrees Celsius in the city.
The cloudy sky and clean and refreshing atmosphere gave the provincial capital a heavenly look but made life difficult for people in some areas as rainwater accumulated on the streets and roads.
According to the Meteorological office, more widespread rain with isolated heavy falls is expected in north-eastern Punjab on Thursday while intermittent heavy snowfall is also likely to occur over Murree and Galliyat hills.
“Rain thunderstorm (with snowfall over the hills) is expected at a number of places in Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA, Islamabad, upper Punjab and Kashmir, scattered places in South Punjab, Lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, while at isolated places in Sind,” a Met office report said.
“Moderate to heavy snowfall is also expected in Quetta, Zhob and Kalat divisions while heavy snowfall is expected in Chitral, Shangla, Naran, Kaghan and Hazara division,” it added.
Heavy rain created inconvenience for road-users, especially pedestrians.
Some traffic jams were also seen on different areas of Lahore during the heavy shower.
