ISLAMABAD: Pakistan handed over an Indian soldier Chandu Babulal Chohan to Indian authorities on Saturday, who inadvertently strayed across the Line of Control (LoC) hours after the surgical strike on ‘terror camps’ in September last year.
A Foreign Office (FO) spokesman confirmed that Chohan was handed over to Indian authorities at the Wagah border. He was captured on September 29, 2016 and had been in custody ever since.
According to the ISPR, the Indian soldier’s return was a gesture of goodwill and in continuation of Pakistan’s efforts to maintain peace along the Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundary. The ISPR added that the soldier was handed over to the Indian authorities on humanitarian grounds.
“Pakistan believes in peaceful relations with its neighbours,” the FO said.
